Edgar was already finishing up his training to be a barber when he first learned about the self-employment program through Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). He knew from a friend that VR could help get his business started if he met the requirements and presented as a good candidate. Edgar has proven with his business that skill and motivation can do great things. Hoosier Cuts has been operational at the University Park Mall in Mishawaka since 2017 and is doing very well.
For Edgar, the business is more than just a haircut, it’s about “Making people feel good,” and that mantra is reflected in his business slogan, “Stay Fresh, Look Fresh, Feel Fresh.” From the first time you meet Edgar, this is something you believe. It comes from a place of genuine sincerity.
When asked about his experience working with Portals, Edgar says, “They were very helpful and knowledgeable. I appreciate them – I would give them an A+.” If you are thinking about entering the VR self-employment program, Edgar says, “Take everything in, it’s a good thing – a blessing. Like hitting the lottery, and just be patient.” To summarize his time in the program he says, “VR was awesome, they are good people doing good things.”
